HoC – 2007, and bossy imaginary friends

That’s for yesterday and today. I’ve passed the midpoint on the episode and am starting the descent toward the finish. I’ve got to learn to get an earlier start on writing these things. I’m not going to make it all the way to next June if I keep this up. At any rate, it’s going as well as can be expected in the word count department.

But I did have a fun, if frustrating, experience while writing today. I got to a point in the story where I wasn’t quite sure how Heather should handle the situation she was in. So after some thinking, I told her, play nice, basically. Suck up. Purr and roll over and make him like you. And damned if Heather didn’t look back at me and say, “Bitch, please. I’m going through withdrawal from my drug of choice, which you’re dangling in front of me, I’ve been traveling for days, and you expect me to play nice with some cat whose half-crazy? Give me a friggin’ break.”

Needless to say, Heather got her way. I have my work cut out for me in revision. I’ve got to build back the psychological aspects of a bunch of scenes that feel pretty sterile at this point, including the one where she rebelled against me. But I think she had the right idea. I just need to make it clear how wired she is during all this, so that the payoff makes sense.
