“I’m working,” I said. I didn’t like the faintly wheedling note that crept to my voice.
“I have all this month’s bills queued up. All you have to do is flip through them and sign things.” It was moments like this that his placid smile looked terribly sinister to me. “Please just authorize them now.”
“I didn’t want to spend that money right now. It’s for expenses.” My eye kept flicking from the screen with the bot feed to the tablet and back. Come on, Nelly, I thought, hurry up so I can do something interesting for a change.
Alistair remained unmoved. “You’ve given Ms. Vaughn her fee for the case. And food counts as expenses. We’ve been over this. None of us can live on reconstituted soup alone.”
“Speak for yourself,” I grumbled. It was possible that, when left to my own devices, my food choices were a little repetitive, but that had never done me any harm. Mostly.
“I’m your assistant. It’s my job to harass you about these matters. You’re not doing anything right now anyway.”
I glared up at him. “Yeah, well, quit being so good at your job.”

Jeez, I agonized over this damn scene. It turned out well enough, but it took so long to get into it. I’ve been using speech-to-text software, which has been slow-going but wonderful for my garbage wrists. I resorted to typing for this scene, though, because I could not stand to obsess over it one line at a time.
If difficulty=quality, this scene=best ever. #agonizing Daily Snippet: #Incognitoverse http://t.co/LpkTGDsx
